A landmark of wooden architecture
Wood City’s architecture forms a unique, customised whole that embodies individual, yet timeless modern architecture. Wood City showcases wood in an inventive and prominent way. The curves of the wooden ceiling of the street-level lobby continues in the facade in an original way. Knots and other natural variations of wood are displayed stylishly in the facade’s calm and coherent expression.
Wood City is a tour de force of urban design, responsible building and the novel use of space. The project also promotes Finnish wood construction, its design and architecture, and the networking of operators in this industry.
Wood City was designed by Anttinen Oiva Architects, whose competition entry “Stories” won the architectural competition organised for the site in the autumn of 2012. Wood City will be built and implemented by SRV.
Activities from dawn till dusk
The urban meeting place is formed by a courtyard enclosed by the office building, hotel and residential buildings, as well as by the public lobby on the street level, the brick and mortar stores and restaurants. The area’s new services make Wood City a busy place. Wood City’s innovative use of space creates genuine flexibility and builds new ways of cooperation and inclusion for tenants and visitors alike.
